Using the Text Editor

Wizz-it has a great page creator which gives you a huge amount of freedom in displaying the content on your pages and is very easy to use!

Please see our How to's and Tips list below to get some tips on how to make your page work as best as possible (for example how to get your pictures rotating round beside the text and many more..).

The editor allows you to do a lot more than just copying and pasting your text. You can style your text using word like features, insert images, movies and flash files, organise your content into different columns and rows, create links to other pages in your website and on the internet, paste content from other applications and lots of other things.

The picture below shows the text editor as you will see it in the control panel. The main white box is where the body of content is displayed.

You can see the button appendix page for information on each button.

How to's & Tips:

1) If you want to have more than just text on your page we suggest first adding a table to your page so you can split your content and pictures (or movies etc) up into rows & columns.

2) To add a table press the Insert Table button Templates where you want the table to appear and a pop-up box will appear with some fields in. The table is initally set to have 2 columns and 2 rows, with a width of 100% and spacing between each cell of 5 pixels but should you change any of these just enter your new value in the field. Click here to view more instructions on what settings to enter.
If this seems a bit complicated you can select from a pre-defined list of templates by clicking on the 'Insert Pre-defined Tables' button Templates).

3) Either type the text directly or paste the text from another application.

4) To style a selection of text select the text you want to stylise and apply the style by clicking on the corresponding button.

5) To add an image press the Insert Image button Templates and select a file from your webspace. To add a new image press the Upload button in the top right hand corner. Click here to view more instructions on adding an image.

6) To add a movie or flash file press the Insert/Embed Media button Templates. From the Type menu select the type of file you want to add. If you are linking a movie/flash file from another website enter the address of the movie in the File/URL box. If you want to play a file from your webspace then press the Browse button beside the File/URL field and select the movie from your webspace. (to upload one press the upload button in the top right hand corner). Click here for more information on adding movies.

7) To create a link from text/pictures to another page on the internet or on your website press the Templates button. In the "Website Address" field enter the address of the website you want to link to. If you want to link to a file on your wespace such as a pdf/doc etc press the Browse button beside the "Website Address" field and select the file you want to link to. Alternativley if you want to link to another page on your website (including one that does not appear on your menus) leave the "Website Address" field blank and select a page from the "OR page on your website" menu. In the target field select whether you want the page to open in the same or a new window. The title field will not be visible but is used by search engines so we suggest entering some related keywords to the link in there.

8) Once way to spruce up your text heavy page is to have some rotating images on the right hand side of your text, for example on this website below (click here to view website).

Templates

To do this follow these steps below:
a) Create a new gallery page (not a standard text page) and enter the Title, Menu Title, Select the sub-menu and page status.
b) Under Display method select 'Rotate Automatically' and check the box that says 'display text on left'.
c) Paste the content you want on the page into the text editor and style it as you would have done on a standard page.
d) Press the Save button.
e) Upload the images you want rotating round in the Gallery Images section at the bottom of the page.

9) If you want to divide your text up into different columns, or have a picture column or multiple rows and are not that technically minded we suggest using our 'Insert Pre-defined tables' button Templates to select from a list of ready to go tables.. Just select the table you want to use from the list and the table will be inserted into the edtior, all you have to do is copy and paste your content into the desired column/row/cell...

10) To copy and paste the contents of a page to another page (keeping all the formatting):
a) Press HTML button Templates in the top right hand corner of the editor
b) In the window that pops-up, copy the entire contents of the text in the HTML Source Editor Box
c) Navigate to the page in the control panel that you want to paste the content to
d) Again press the HTML button in the top right hand corner of the edtior
e) Paste the text into the HTML Source Editor box, either replacing all the content in there (if you want to replace all the text) or adding it to the bottom (if you want to add the text to the bottom)

11) Paste as Plain Text. Sometimes pasting from Microsoft Word can add lots of unnecessary formatting and code. If you're having trouble with the styling and can't get your text to behave we suggest using the Paste as Plain Text button (Templates) which will remove all the styling and allow you to start afresh.

12) When you are finished editing remember to press the Save button!
